Classroom lessons:
Each classroom receives four guidance lessons per school year; I teach many different lessons based on social skills and character education traits, depending on the age group. My lessons often include stories, large group discussions, hands-on activities, crafts, worksheets or games. Ask your child what s/he learned during his/her classroom lesson with me! |
Individual Counseling:
I am available for any student who needs someone to talk to or has a problem. Teachers and parents may refer a student to me, or the students themselves may let me know if they would like to talk. My older students can utilize a 'Mrs. Forey-I Need to See You!' box in the library, while my younger students can simply tell a teacher if they would like to talk to me. Weekly sessions are also available and require a signed permission form from the parent. |
Group Counseling:
Interested in signing your child up for a counseling group? I run various counseling groups from November to February each year for students in 1st-5th grade. Group permission forms go home each September with all students in grades 1-5; please watch for those if you would like your child to participate in a counseling group. I cover a wide variety of topics, so there are many groups for you to choose from. We play games, do crafts, read stories, draw and many other activities...all while providing social interaction and a safe atmosphere for sharing. |
Special Activities:
I am involved with many special activities at Clark Elementary, such as ISTEP, IREAD, the Body Safety Program with Detective Terry Hall, testing our English as a Second Language students, Christmas Assistance, New Student activities at the beginning of the school year, preparing our 5th graders for the transition to CPMS, working with Parent Volunteers, chairing our Warrior Way committee and helping with classroom projects. |
Friendship Workshops:
I run Friendship Workshops for all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls during the month of August. Each teacher sends their girls to me for a one-session workshop to learn about Relational Bullying ('girl' bullying) and how to work things out with friends using the 'Conflict Checklist', which hangs in every 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classroom. Ask your girls how the checklist works to resolve arguments! |
Counseling Interns:
During some school years, I may have a part time or full time counseling intern. The interns are students who are earning their Masters degrees in Counseling from IUPUI. The interns spend a lot of time with our CES students so please ask your child about my intern if s/he mentions it! |
